Facilities

Our facilities onsite are the essentials for the allotment site. We thrive with community and its something we are proud of at Newland Allotments because we share a common intrest on site. We are blessed with a set up that allows that community to continue what has been generations before. If you are new to us or visiting us for the first time to view a plot please always make sure you are on site with a tenant from the allotment. This site is not open to the public access, unless one of our event stipulates otherwise. If you have any issues finding our site please contact us on our email newlandallotments@gmail.com.

Our facilities on site are for all and they’re to be maintained by all where possible, we also have toilets on site, these are located on the far left of the allotment. Remember to enjoy these facilities yourself, we would appreciate your help on our site to keep these wonderful gardens and facilities healthy for the future generations to enjoy them. Its important to remember these are for everyone on the allotment site to use.

Shop

Our shop is the heart area of the community, we have out items on sale as part of the association but is also the beating heart of the social hub. It’s a place where people can come to talk and have a cup of tea or coffee depending on your taste buds, perhaps enjoy a biscuit and have a good nata. The shop I open to everyone on site and encourages you to come and talk to one another and get know each other if you don’t already, it’s the best bit of our site the community ad the shop has a welcoming heart to help get you started on your day.

Garden

Our colourful garden is a great place to sit and have a drink or perhaps find yourself checking out the arrange of flowers. A peaceful entrance and welcoming area for all to see. We hold our smaller events in this area alongside the shop, you’ll find people in the summer when the shop is open and site is busy that the use of this garden feature it’s used to its full potential, next time why not join them.

Lagoon

The lagoon is usually a shallow body of water separated from a larger body of water by barrier islands or reefs. Our lagoon was given the nickname due to the nature in which it came about, it’s man made was developed in 2019. Its used to reduce the water levels on the neighbouring plots, so they can be continued to use. Several plots after the 2007 flooding continued to flood and its something that constantly is being reviewed. The plot itself has brought wild life on to the site since it has been developed. The site regards this plot as mini nature reserve due to wild life developing here.

Orchard

Our orchard is a planting of trees that is are maintained for food production for the community. Our orchard has different varieties of Apples, Pears and Plums. Orchards are usually used for commercial use or a feature of large gardens, in our case this is one of our few communal gardens. Most orchards are planted for a single variety of fruit, in our case we have multiple trees. These have been planted with biodiversity in mind, which is recognised in forest plantations, this set up is beneficial in our own orchard as it provided resilience to variety of pests and diseases similarly found in large forests. Gracefully respect the use of the Orchard, taking large quantities of fruit from the orchard this goes against the ethos of the community.
